When I start one of her books I have to make sure I have ample time carved out to dive in because once you start it’s impossible to stop. This book will chew you up and spit you out and it’s only the first in the series. Like I said before, this not your run of the mill fluffy romance. Both are tempting to him for different reasons, reasons that make Niko hate himself more than anyone else. One represents light to Niko, the other dark. Then there is Vasili the Prince who shows Niko nothing but harsh words and even harsher punishments. There’s Julian the guard who shows Niko kindness and understanding. 70% into the book and I still couldn’t figure out who the hell the real love interests were. Betrayal and secrets are all Niko finds within the walls. From a blacksmiths son to a soldier of war, he finds himself within the palace after basically being kidnapped by the Prince. The entirety of the book is from his POV. It’s like a drug You know its going to lead you down a dark path but you can’t help but keep coming back to it. I think I do, and then I’m proved wrong again and again. I never know whats coming around the next corner. It pulls you in and twists your thoughts right along with your heart. Ariana Nash knows how to write a dark fantasy romance.
